Outside the Ball’s Thankful Thursday initiative shines a light on a charity program each month that uses tennis to make a powerful impact on the world around us. This month we’re introducing you to The Border Youth Tennis Exchange.
The Border Youth Tennis Exchange, or BYTE, is connecting young people in a divided environment. This bi-national youth development organization offers professional quality tennis instruction and academic enrichment activities to youth on both sides of the US-Mexico border.
Empowering boys and girls in Nogales, Arizona and Nogalas, Sonora Mexico, where poverty, addiction and crime is prevalent, BYTE provides youth with a safe community and alternative path. From taking children across the border and putting up temporary tennis courts to running digital workshops and clubs focused on healthy lifestyles.
Story-telling through technology and art is a key focus of BYTE’s educational outreach, encouraging people to tell their own positive stories about life in a border town. With a great deal of fear and misunderstand associated with the border, BYTE is changing this way of thinking and bringing down these walls.
We thank BYTE for the work they’re doing to ensure a better future. To learn more about their important work visit www.bytetennis.org
